Self Aware September

Do you dare

to sit

with yourself?

Not from the need to fix yourself.

Or to become a better version of yourself.

Neither to silence your thoughts, transcend your emotions, or finally get it all together.

But simply to sit.

To pause long enough to notice what is actually here.

We often move through our days without really noticing what is moving through us. A thought appears, and we follow it. An emotion arises, and we become it. Something touches an old wound, belief or expectation, and before we know it, we are already responding from a familiar pattern. Simply because this is what we have learned to do.

We move through life on autopilot.

And sometimes we even recognise the pattern while we are in it, yet somehow it feels easier to keep going than to pause and truly meet what is here.

Yoga offers us another possibility. Not to control what arises, but to become intimate with it.

To notice.

To feel.

To listen.

To become curious about the stories we carry, without immediately making them true.

To recognise:

Ah. There is that story again.

There is that belief.

There is that familiar reaction.

And instead of judging it, changing it, fixing it or making it mean something about who we are…

we sit with it.

With a little more space.

A little more curiosity.

A little more playfulness.

The seat of awareness

The word āsana is often translated simply as “posture”.

But traditionally, āsana also points towards taking a seat in awareness. A place from which we can meet ourselves within the stream of life. A seat of awareness.

And perhaps this is one of the most beautiful invitations of yoga:

To find our way back to the middle.

Not because life will stop moving around us. It won’t.

There will always be highs and lows. Expansion and contraction. Joy and grief. Certainty and doubt. Pleasure and discomfort.

The practice is not to live at one end of the spectrum.

The practice is learning to remain present as life moves through us.

To notice what gets touched. What gets activated. What begins to move. And how we meet it.

This is where the practice becomes much bigger than what happens on the mat. Because eventually, the question is no longer:

“Can I stay present in this posture?”

But:

“Can I stay present in my life?”

September carries something of

this invitation naturally.

The height of summer begins to soften.

The days slowly turn inward.

There is a quiet transition from outward expansion towards a return to ourselves.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this time of year is associated with the Stomach and Spleen meridian system, themes of nourishment, grounding, digestion and returning to what truly sustains us.

There is something beautiful in that symbolism.

Because beneath all the layers of expectations, conditioning, roles, habits and stories, there is something much simpler.

Something that doesn’t need to be created.

Only remembered.

You get to return to what is already here.

But to return, we first need to create enough space to see what has been covering it.

And that is where awareness begins.

SELF AWARE SEPTEMBER

A month of taking your seat.

Throughout September, we will meet each morning for 5–15 minutes.

Not to add another thing to your already full life. But to create a small, intentional space within it.

To add more life within your life

A space to pause. To feel. To listen. To remember.

Together, we will explore different practices, meditation, pranayama, gentle movement, self-inquiry and other ways of cultivating awareness.

Every practice offering the same underlying invitation:

“Can you meet yourself here?”

Some mornings may feel spacious. Some restless. Some beautiful. Some uncomfortable. Some days you may feel deeply connected. Other days you may wonder why you even showed up. All of it belongs. Because this isn’t a practice of getting it right.

It is a practice of noticing what is true today.

And then we take it with us.

This is perhaps the most important part.

Self-Aware September isn’t about creating a beautiful morning ritual that ends when you step off the mat.

The practice is meant to spill into your life.

Into the conversation that triggers you. Into the moment you notice yourself rushing. Into the decision you don’t know how to make. Into the familiar thought that suddenly appears. Into the moment when something doesn’t go the way you expected.

Can you pause?

Can you notice what is happening inside?

Can you recognise the story without immediately becoming the story?

Can you find your seat again?

Even for one breath.

Even for a moment.

That is practice.

Five minutes can change the way you meet a day

Because five minutes can create a little space. And in that space, something becomes possible. A moment between stimulus and response. A moment between the story and your identification with it. A moment where you remember:

I am here.

I can notice.

I can choose how I meet this.

And perhaps that small moment follows you. Into the next hour. Then the next conversation. Then the rest of your day. Until, slowly, the practice is no longer something you do.

It becomes a way of being with your life.

Do you dare to sit?

Because sitting with yourself asks for something.

It asks for courage.

And it asks for devotion.

The kind that says:

I am willing to keep returning.

Even when I don’t feel like it. Even when I don’t understand what is happening. Even when what I meet isn’t particularly comfortable.

I am willing to stay curious.

I am willing to listen.

I am willing to make space for myself.

Again. And again. And again.

That is why we will do this together.

We will meet each morning, creating a shared rhythm and a gentle sense of accountability.

Because there is something powerful about being witnessed in your intention.

About knowing that, somewhere, others are also taking their seat.

Breathing. Listening. Remembering. Returning.

You are not here to find yourself.

You are here to remember yourself.

Beneath the noise. Beneath the expectations. Beneath the stories you’ve been carrying. Beneath the endless movement of life.

There is already a place within you that can witness it all. The part of you that can notice the thought without becoming it. Feel the emotion without being consumed by it. Meet uncertainty without immediately needing an answer. Experience life without needing to control every part of it.

A quiet centre.

Not separate from life.

Right in the middle of it.

This is the seat.

And you can return to it.

Anytime.

SELF-AWARE SEPTEMBER

30 days.

5–15 minutes each morning.

One shared practice of coming home to yourself.

Through meditation, pranayama, gentle movement, self-inquiry and awareness practices, we will create a daily space to pause, notice and return.

To remember what is already there.

And to allow that awareness to move with you, from the mat, into your relationships, your choices, your work, your challenges, your ordinary morning.

Because ultimately, yoga is about how we meet life.

So, take your seat.

Make a little space.

Get curious.

Listen.

And see what is already here.
